TITLE: Prosthodontist

REQUIREMENTS: Doctor of Dental Medicine in Dentistry; Residency program accredited by the American Dental Association.

JOB DUTIES: Treat a variety of restorative dental issues and provide prosthetics. Examine patients’ teeth to determine the proper course of action. Discuss patients’ medical history and dental concerns through patient consultations. Determine the size of dental prostheses by taking impressions of patients’ teeth and jaws. Collaborate with the lab to make new prostheses by sending out wax models. Fit dental prostheses into patients’ mouths and determining if adjustments are needed. Perform bonding procedures to fix chips, gaps and cracks in teeth. Whiten teeth with procedures that treat discoloration. Regular procedures that will be performed include: Crowns: These are artificial covers or caps made of metal or porcelain that cover and replace the entire visible portion of a tooth past the gum line. Dental implants: These replace and entire tooth or multiple teeth. A titanium screw-like metal item is implanted in the jaw providing a solid anchor for artificial teeth or dentures. Porcelain veneers: Veneers are thin ceramic shells that are bonded to teeth to change the cosmetic appearance of the front of a patient’s teeth. This includes their size, shape and color. Bridge implants: Bridge implants are another form of tooth-replacement that use healthy teeth on each side of a gap to support the artificial tooth or teeth. Dentures: Dentures are a full or partial set of removable teeth that help to restore patients’ smiles.

SALARY: $115 per hour.
